District Meet
Girls
Desert Mountain takes first place in district meet - clinches victory with win in last event - 400 free relay. Crush District and School Records in process. (broke school record by over 7 seconds, which was already broken once this year)
It came down to the last race of the meet
summary provided by Kevin Russell.
Going into the 400 Free Relay, Desert Mountain held an 8 point lead -- not much when first place in a relay scores 40 points and tenth place scores 14 points. Chaparral's relays finished 2nd and 4th to earn 34 and 30 points, respectively. Desert Mountain's relays finished 1st and 5th to earn 40 and 28 points, respectively. In this last event, Desert Mountain outscored Chaparral by 4 points to expand the margin slightly, for a final score of 700 to 688. If Chaparral's relays had been 1st and 4th to score 40 and 30 points, and Desert Mountain's relays had been 2nd and 5th to score 34 and 28 points, then Chaparral would have outscored Desert Mountain by 8 points in the final event, resulting in a tie score at 694 points.
